Established by the British Crown on the territories of the Mississaugas as the town of York in 1793, it was renamed to Toronto in 1834.

The Toronto sign was originally installed for the 2015 Pan American Games as a temporary attraction meant to be dismantled in the following year, but it was kept and is now a popular landmark.
The City
Standing at 553 meters, this was the tallest tallest freestanding structure in the world between 1976 and 2007. It remains as the tallest in the western hemisphere, offering panoramic views of the city and Lake Ontario.

Parliament
The mace represents the authority granted by the crown to the parliament and must be present during sessions. On the left is the original mace of Ontario made of wood and on the right is the current mace made of copper and gold after the original was taken by American troops during the War of 1812.
